Stephen E. Montgomery

In 2007, Stephen E. Montgomery received his undergraduate degrees in Philosophy and Sociology from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington.  In 2015, Stephen graduated from the Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon, earning honors in legal research and writing, honors in contract drafting, and high paper in land use planning, mediation and mediation advocacy, and advanced negotiations. Stephen is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the American Bar Association, and OGALLA, and is currently licensed to practice law in the State of Oregon.

Prior to attending law school, Stephen worked for a nonprofit organization, Neighborhood House, as a homeless families case manager in Portland, Oregon.  After graduating from law school, Stephen practiced as an associate attorney for the law firm of Vincent J. Bernabei, in the Portland, Oregon area. In 2017, Stephen began his private practice in Silverton, Oregon and opened Willamette Valley Law Group shortly thereafter.  Willamette Valley Law Group currently has offices in Salem, Oregon and Stephen routinely meets with clients at their homes or other places of their choosing throughout the Willamette Valley.

Stephen has a strong sense of right and wrong, values open and honest communication, and practices active listening and mindfulness when interacting with clients. Additionally, Stephen values continuous learning, and actively seeks to further develop his legal skills.

Stephen is a third-generation Oregonian, and lives with his family near Salem, Oregon.  An avid firearms enthusiast, Stephen enjoys participating in competitive shooting sports. As a lover of the Northwest, Stephen also enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, and many other outdoor sports.

Gerald E. Montgomery, Stephen’s father, graduated from the Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon in 1973. Now retired, Gerald’s illustrious career included positions with the Washington County, Oregon District Attorney’s Office, the law firm of Morrison, Dunn, Cohen, Miller & Carney (now Dunn Carney LLP), and the former law firm of Montgomery, Le Chevallier & Englund. Prior to retiring, Gerald was licensed to practice law in the State of Oregon and in the State of Washington.

In 1995, Gerald began his private practice in the Portland, Oregon area. Gerald focused primarily on estate planning, but he expertly assisted his clients in many other legal matters. In 2013, Gerald closed his private practice to allow him to spend more time with family and to seek out new life adventures. Prior to officially retiring, Gerald and Willamette Valley Law Group maintained a close, personal, continuous, and regular relationship.

Though now retired and not practicing law, Gerald continues to provide Willamette Valley Law Group with invaluable advice and years of insight into the legal profession. Gerald has also graciously made himself widely available to Willamette Valley Law Group in a non-legal capacity.

Like Stephen, Gerald has a strong sense of right and wrong, values continuous learning, and actively seeks to further develop his many skills.

Gerald lives with his wife near Portland, Oregon. Also an avid firearms enthusiast, Gerald enjoys collecting and showcasing historic firearms. Gerald also finds great pleasure in spending time with his family and traveling.
